A&D Product Seminar in Beijing and Shanghai

Reported by Mr. Iimura, International Division

In recent years, providing care for elderly and handicapped persons has become a significant issue in China. The reason for this problem is clear, there are over 150 million people who are over 60 years in China and 60 million people who are handicapped. China is now trying to find a way to enhance the lives of these two segments of its population. Although products to help support the lives of the elderly and handicapped are being developed, supply has been unable to keep pace with demand. Furthermore, there are many products which have not yet been introduced to the Chinese market.

Therefore, when A&D held product seminars in China in December last year, we decided to utilize the opportunity to introduce some products which could be used in facilities for both elderly and handicapped persons. The seminars were held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing on December 21, 2007 and at the Pine City Hotel on December 25, 2007.

All products displayed at the seminars were products very effective in monitoring the health of elderly and handicapped individuals.  Just as importantly, these products do not impose a heavy burden on the individuals being monitored nor on those responsible for caring for them.

Some of the products A&D introduced were fully automatic BP monitors, BP monitors for home use, barrier-free wheel chair scales, fully automatic height and weight scales, stretcher scales and chair scales.

In Beijing, over 40 people attended the seminar and in Shanghai there were over 50 people in attendance.  Mr. Chen Young, Deputy Secretary-General of the Gerontological Society of China, gave an opening speech at the beginning of both seminars. Mr. Young was particularly interested in whether the products were beneficial and user-friendly for elderly and handicapped people.

Participants were mainly caretakers from facilities such as nursing homes, day care centers and rehabilitation centers. They seemed very interested in the products on display in the room. Participants even took time to try the products themselves and to ask questions regarding the products.  Perhaps it was the first time for most of the participants to view some of the products.   In the beginning of the seminar, some participants did not understand how the products were operated, but by the end of the seminar they completely understood how the products functioned.

  Product Seminar in Shanghai

I believe the seminars in both Beijing and Shanghai were successful because the participants recognized the variety of ways A&D’s products enhanced the lives of elderly and handicapped persons receiving care at their facilities.

We look forward to holding similar seminars in the near future.
